Using too much data when you're traveling can really cost you. If you decide to switch manually, a drop-down menu appears to let you select a new profile, while automatic profile switching happens only when you switch networks. (Of course if you're that worried about security on an open network, you should consider tunnelling all your traffic through a VPN.) A profile for the network at your local coffee shop could lock down everything by default, and then you can go in and check the boxes for each app while you use it. ![]() That way you won't use your iPhone's data with syncing or checking for app updates.
